Directories
Although similar to search engines, directories are often very unique in the categories or genre included. Directories generally provide quality targeted visitors that find you through searching the category where your website is listed and described.
Many directories are also used as a base for search engine listings, so you can easily end up with having your directory listing found not only through individuals navigating through a category list, but by individuals performing searches as well.

- TWTG Webmaster Recommendation:
Since Yahoo is currently charging $299.00 as a submission fee (non-refundable if denied), many smaller business websites might not see the advantage of the cost for inclusion versus what their ROI might be. It can be a close call for smaller businesses, but our overall advice is if you can afford the $299.00, submit your listing for at least the first year and see where it goes. Then let your submission choice for the following years be based upon your factual results and not on other peoples reported results.

DMOZ (open directory project)
The Open Directory Project is the largest, most comprehensive human-edited directory of the Web. It is constructed and maintained by a vast, global community of volunteer editors. The Open Directory is the most widely distributed data base of Web content classified by humans. Its editorial standards body of net-citizens provide the collective brain behind resource discovery on the Web.
List Your Site in DMOZ and your site may in the results of these leading sites: All the Web - AltaVista - Gigablast - Google USENET - Google - HotBot - Lycos - Teoma - WiseNut - Yahoo .

- TWTG Webmaster Recommendation:
Patience is necessary when working with DMOZ. It can very easily take 6 months for your listing to get indexed and if it isn't indexed, don't expect a note telling that it wasn't or why. If you submit again, and if your original request is still waiting to be indexed, your original request is trashed and your waiting period starts all over again with your new request....so our best advice is to carefully find the perfect category for your site and carefully create a link title and description according to the DMOZ rules, then submit it and forget it. If you don't see it within 6 months, try again.
